This book was required reading for a challenge I am currently attempting to complete. If it wasnt for the challenge, I probably would have never picked this up, especially since it was the 19th book in a series. It did well as a stand alone though. I did enjoy the book, it was for the most part an entertaining read. I am more and more coming to realize I love mysteries and trying to guess who the "bad guy" is and the plot. The only downfall of this book is that it got slow in some parts and felt like it dragged on as Grafton put all the pieces of the puzzle together and tied up lose ends. I may be willing to try another Grafton book out in the future, but will start from the beginning.
This was probably the best of this series I've listened to so far. I don't know what happened, yet, between Q and R, as I'm listening to these as they become available from my local library, but there's seems to have been some kind of shift. I really appreciated having more than Kinsey as the point of contact - it was refreshing to shift away from her perspective, for a change.
Reread this and loved how you have the different narrations of then and now. Reminds you of a cold case episode.
Meh, I thought this book was OK. Not great, not terrible. There was very little about Kinsey's personal life, which was very disappointing. We barely even saw Henry!
Every time I'd get a new clue I thought I had it figured out. No way, Kinsey Millhone keeps me on my toes.
adventurous
medium-paced
There are so many things I love about this series, but number 1 has to be Expect the Unexpected! The books have a loose formula which Ms Grafton cleverly breaks here and there. This time the brilliant shake up was in the form of random flashback chapters inserted throughout the narrative. They were told in third person and traced suspects back in 1953 when Violet went missing. She gave almost everyone a good reason and the opportunity to have done Violet harm. But what really happened?!? I was on the edge of my seat, with my heart pounding, desperate to find out! Great build up and I guessed wrong! Wish Kinsey was a real person so I could get her on the case of my family tree - there are many old mysteries to get to the bottom of and she is always victorious hahaha.
One of the best of the series..although it can get confusing with the going back and forth in time frames and the many different characters and their points of view (instead of just Kinsey's).
This is the first of her books that I've read and I really liked it a lot.
