How can this book be so revered in the absurdist community when it is near impossible to understand. How do Camus or Hegel differ to a homeless man yelling incoherent profanities other than our assumptions of their intelligence?

If it's true that "if you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough", then Camus doesn't understand absurdism at all. I have no respect for people who put the onus on the learner to untangle their words.

Philosophy is a luxury. Most famous philosophers came from a place of wealth where they got to contemplate the point of life rather than struggle to find food and water. For this reason I believe some philosophers were unduly placed in high regard; their reputation precedes their work.

Clearly I am in the minority though so maybe there's something I'm missing. I reserve the right to change my opinion in the future. But for now, screw this book.

Ich kann nicht behaupten, dass ich immer alles verstanden habe, aber ich hab mich von Camus sehr verstanden gefühlt.
"Wir müssen uns Sisyphos als einen glücklichen Menschen vorstellen" kennt wohl jeder, aber dieses Buch hat noch so viel mehr zu bieten.
