if you stick to reading this after the first 20-30 pages it gets easier, i promise!

"But it is bad to stop, hard to be satisfied with a single way of seeing, to go without contradiction, perhaps the most subtle of all spiritual forces. The preceding merely defines a way of thinking. But the point is to live"

Too dense on philosophy--didn't enjoy

I don't think I agreed with everything Camus had to say, or even understood it all, but even if I couldn't follow his absurd breadcrumbs, I could enjoy his sense of humor. Like when he cautions from taking examples literally:
when drawing from Rousseau the conclusion that one must walk on all fours and from Nietzsche that one must maltreat one’s mother

Certainly a tough read to get your teeth into. A pencil / pen for some note-taking is much needed with this one. Maybe we just have to imagine ourselves happy when reading it...

However, a brilliantly introspective essay, terrifying and encouraging all the same.

I'm miffed that Camus's explication of the absurd fits the way I view my existence pretty much one to one, because he's kind of annoying. Sometimes it feels like he's just flourishing for the sake of it, other times a line will really resonate with me. Skipped the essays where he just gets really horny for cities and stuff. Glad he enjoyed his time in French colonial holdings, whatever.

But still. "The point is to live." However over-explainy and navel-gazey he gets, at the core of it, this guy gets it.

the poetic nature of his writing is both a joy and a detriment while reading camus. though camus presents some beautifully quotable notions of absurdism, his ideas sometimes feel bogged down by his wordiness.
