This book was just ok. It tells the story of two sisters, ten years apart, who are members of a secret society at Princeton University, where two girls end up dead, including the younger sister. Told in three parallel timelines and two different perspectives (Older sister 10 years ago, Older sister now, Younger sister leading up to her recent death), it got a little confusing and hard to keep track of what was happening when. Ultimately, there were a lot of details, people, and information about the society itself that muddied up the story, causing me to lose interest and attention. The story finally came hurtling toward a dramatic (and slightly dissatisfying) end. The book wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't my favorite.

I did not enjoy this. I found it contrived and uninteresting. The social commentary on racism and white privilege felt forced and ineffective. There were just too many characters that were all the same. I could only tell the sisters apart because the audiobook has two narrators. And omg the plot holes. And I hate when adult narrators try to do kid voices. It’s so cringey.

I gave it two stars because this is a debut and I want to encourage new writers. Hoping the author’s second book is better.

Nice quick read to help get out of a slump. A typical whodunnit. Maya kinda got on my nerves as the FMC, but the other chapters in Naomi helped.
