If you came here looking for a review of the World War II novel of the same name by Herman Wouk, prepare for disappointment. If, however, you're here for the latest and greatest in the ongoing adventures of Whitney "Bliss-Slayer", Torsten of the Glass, and Sora the blood mage then you're in for a treat.

This review is for the audiobook version of Winds of War as narrated by Luke Daniels and in which he delivered yet another stellar performance. If you already are a fan of Daniels' work then you'll feel right at home.

The latest installment in the Buried Goddess Saga picks up where we left our heroes at the conclusion of Web of Eyes. Whitney and Sora are off on their own with Whitney corrupting … er … teaching Sora the arts of thievery while Thorsten is trying to support the new king.

There are so many things I'd like to talk about here, but I really don't want to spoil it, so let me just sum this up by saying that Web of Eyes was good, but Winds of War was very, very good. The characters we were introduced to in the first book are further fleshed out, we see them continue to grow and develop, and they respond consistently, but not predictably to the challenges they face.

Sora, who I thought was just OK in book 1, had a star turn for me. She is a much stronger character this time around and consequently is much more interesting. In book 1 the POV would shift between the two male protagonists, but in book 2 we have Sora added to the mix and so we get see and know her more intimately.

Once again, Bruno & Castle have created a fun romp through a fantasy world. If you liked the first book, you'll definitely have fun with the sequel.
