This book isn't long, but it took forever to get through. I liked the movie and thought I'd like the book. I really didn't, which is strange because the movie was very accurate to the book. It's just not so annoying in a movie because everything happens faster. The unicorn is frustrating and difficult to sympathize with. Actually all the characters are a bit confusing and annoying, and none of them have any agency. Some of the writing is really strange and anachronistic in a way that feels more jarring than whimsical. Overall, it's not exactly bad, but it's definitely not my cup of tea.

i loved the movie adaptation growing up and thought i should read the book. now i have and it was…okay? one of the best parts of the movie is how it doesn’t really take itself seriously and feels kind of goofy. the book dragged and dragged towards the end, and there was so much musing and random singing. i just got tired. it’s hard, also, because once the unicorn transforms she kind of stops being a character? and so then at the end i had lost interest in her story. the urgency was gone. so, definitely didn’t love it, but i can appreciate that it’s a classic and i do feel sentimental about it, or the movie at least.
