Gah! What a wonderful and emotional ride. This spans a year in the life of three friends in their late 30s.

I think the realism comes from how imperfect each of these women are. They are in difficult situations, at times from their own poor or misguided decisions, sometimes from the normal trials of life. Debra having an affair and Maxine’s self centeredness were particularly laborious to sympathize with. However, I liked the way White helped them grow and move beyond themselves. Renee is balancing her father’s Alzheimer’s with creating a new and unexpected life.

While there are satisfying love stories for each of these women - this is really about their own personal identity and friendship. Terrific mix of grief, joy, anger, laughs, defeat, and triumph.

Narration:
Overall, I enjoyed Sharell Palmer’s narration. I would have liked more distinction between the various character’s voices. That said, I did like her performance of the banter and emotions.

One of the most well written self published books I've come across. The characters are fully fleshed out and their friendships and relationships are very realistic. I'd highly recommend it for readers that loved The Supremes at Earl's All You Can Eat or Waiting to Exhale. Kudos to the author on this debut novel.

Three accomplished, resilient longtime friends and their interwoven lives. Strong romance thread in a contemporary fiction.

Loved this book!

The sisterhood in this book was so real. It wasn't cookie cutter or perfect at all and I adored it.

I had so many emotional reactions to this book. Several times I wanted to choke Maxine. Each love story was so real.

That has to be the best thing about this book. Everything was flawed and real and wonderful.
Not once did I guess what was going to happen next.

Absolutely loved this book!

DL White’s Brunch at Ruby’s was a great read! I couldn’t put it down!

This is a story of challenging yet fulfilling friendships among three women who are navigating shifts in their professional and personal lives. I loved how different the women are and how each woman added something unique to the friendship circle.

Now, Maxine worked my nerves from the start of this book until the end, but I think every friend group has/had a Maxine at some point. You overlook her, check her foolishness, and gone on about your day because “that’s just how she is.”

Poor Debra. Lawd! My girl was going THROUGH.
