A really good story. I kinda wish there was more of an ending though! No spoiler, I just wish there was more. You will find out if you read it!

Meghan admires the Trevor family--the way they are so warm and welcoming, and the way the three kids (West, Tuesday, and Brown) all get along. Every chance she gets, Meghan hangs around. Even at nine years old, she has a crush on West and believes they will be together someday. When Meghan, West, Tuesday, and Brown play Freeze Tag with Lannie, a neighborhood girl who nobody likes, they discover that when Lannie touches you, you really freeze. Lannie refuses to unfreeze Meghan until West makes a terrible promise.

Now that Meghan, West, and Lannie are in high school, Meghan and West are in love, and Lannie is out in the cold--until Lannie reminds West of his long-forgotten promise. Lannie wants West and is jealous of Meghan, who seems to have everything. If West won't keep his promise, Meghan just might end up frozen forever.

Suspenseful page-turner that makes you think about what happens to children who nobody loves.

I have to say this book has one of the best ending and one of the most surprising ending of all, for me at least, and I won't spoil it but it just made the the book in general- which the middle part had me bored with the cookie cutter villian of the girl who just enslaved this boy- shot up fiffty point with the ending.

I did not like a single character in this entire book. They were all terrible people.

Growing up, this was the book that got me intro this kind of genre. I read it all the time and loved it. Now, reading it at 22 I still enjoyed that book a lot. Up until the last few pages. It left me wanting a better ending and more information about certain characters. Like, how this series of events affected them. I wanted a more cohesive ending, which I didn't receive. That being said, overall, I still really enjoyed the book. And I am happy to have this in my collection again!

This book was suitably haunting and creepy and I think what I liked most about it was how the writing felt like a dark fairy tale. I wish this theme had been a bit more fleshed out, there were times when the book strayed into thriller territory, but the former defiantly worked better and made the story more interesting and different.
I read this book when I was younger, and I remember it being one of the first fairy-tale-esque books I read where the characters reversed at the end- the "prince" becomes the villain, the "evil queen" becomes the cursed princess, and the "princess" becomes the hero. It was really cool to see as a kid, and it stuck with me as an interesting narrative structure to look out for.

That being said, I definitely related more to and understood better the Trevor kids' decision in the end. I remember thinking before that Lannie had turned them dark and evil, but as an adult I find myself thinking that they may have been justified.
But then again, this over-simplified view of "good" and"evil" is another indicator that this story structure is based off fairy tales, which often had overly simplified plots and characters without nuance. I find that the best fairy tale retellings take theses themes and subvert them, and i'm not sure this book really did that, though it cleanly attempted to at the end, but by then it seemed sort of rushed and forced.

This read was so weird. Deadly freeze tag! Killed stepfathers! Letting people be stuck in a vehicle for the rest of their life! Teen love!
