This was my first poetry collection from Trista Mateer, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This poetry collection explores themes of heartbreak, love, self-love, acceptance, and everything in between. Alot of the poems cycle back to Trista sharing her feels about her first real heartbreak: a girl who was her friend for years, secret lover, and is now getting married to a man. There are also several poems that share how Trista's family are unsupportive of her identity as a bisexual woman.
I loved how the poetry collection progressed through the stages of grief following a heartbreak. Healing is not linear: some days things get better, and some days it is nearly impossible to get out of bed. Trista was raw and real, showcasing her authentic feelings at all points during her journey. I also really appreciated seeing her road to self-love. It is so hard to love yourself when the world tells you how you feel is wrong, but when you are true to yourself, everything eventually falls into place.
I did feel like there were some poems that felt repetitive, but I still enjoyed them all the same!

i really liked this!! it definitely made me think about my previous relationship(s) and reflect on how much i have grown as an individual. for sure out of my comfort zone but i loved it. i just wish it would have dealt more with the healing process than it did but overall a good read!!

Short and sweet and one of my new favourite poetry books! The story of a first love and the challenges of truly moving on conveyed in these pages hits a smidgen too close to home for me and I found it all horribly relatable (which made it a fantastic read), and I really enjoy her style. I had to dog eat at least a quarter of the book for especially brilliant passages! I highly recommend it!!
