Just didn't enjoy this book.

I listened to this on tape and thought it was fantastic!

This book was too dark for me.

3.5 stars. Read it quickly, but felt like it was rushed. Lots of doing on the part of these characters without much character development.

Entertaining Southern Thriller

Was slow at first, but picked up after the first 25% or so. Lots of triggers, but not used for shock value. Audiobook is fun with the author/narrator's accent!

Good piece of light fiction. Couldn't put it down. The climax scene was a bit strange/unrealistic/unclear and the end was too saccharine/happy ever after, but all in all, quite good.

As with so many books lately, I feel like the ending was too "Happy Ending" for me to feel good about it. I rounded up because I would have given this a 2.5 stars

This was an audiobook my daughter and I listened to. The story of a woman who makes a deal with God after a traumatic happenstance and remains away from her country hometown for many years to be lured back to find understanding closure and peace. That typical ending usually makes me (the sometimes embittered black sheep that knows that would never happen to me if I ever returned back), hurl the book across the room with expletives of idealistic bs.. (yes I see a therapist lol)
This book however presents this in a very relatable fashion. The author presents enough information about the main character and the aunt to understand why reconciliation for them is more important than either of them is willing to admit to each other or themselves.

It brings to the forefront the devastating "secrets" , unspoken but you are expected to know rules that are the undercurrent of some families, and miscommunications and breaks apart relationships and causes some to walk away completely. This book is an example that even in very dark circumstances, reconciliation can be possible but only if both sides are willing to work for it.

This was a good read to get you out of a reading rut, but it won't be going on any of my "best of" lists. I didn't find the plot to be endlessly fascinating, but it as alright. It did have a fantastic first line-“There are gods in Alabama: Jack Daniel's, high school quarterbacks, trucks, big tits, and also Jesus.”

Listened to audiobook. It was captivating. Full of swear words and violence, but it didn't distract from the story. The book was incredibly well crafted with twists and turns coming - some I could see and some that were red herrings. It was an 8 hour audiobook that I've finished over about 3 (maybe 4) days - so hard to turn off and put down.
