These are always an easy, mindless read. The female characters sometimes drive me crazy with how little they think out their actions. Otherwise it’s always a pleasant story to read but does not require a lot of thought and the stakes are usually fairly low.

It's Rory's turn! This is a fun book and it was nice to see the healer Buchanan brother meet his match. And he does meet his equal in Elysande - an English nobelwoman who's house has come under siege. Tasked with taking her to safety and getting an important message to the King, Rory finds himself in trouble. Not only having to outrun the men who seek her but also having to control his feelings for the wee english lass. Elysande is a great pairing for Rory. She's strong, smart and brave (and despite spending pretty much the entire novel injured) you can see how fiercely she protects her own.

I didn't find the plot as interesting as in the other books of the series. For so much of it it didn't feel like a lot was happening. And yes the events in the book occur over just a week or two, but I just wanted a bit more action. although there is plenty of romantic action which was nice to see develop.

Just one brother left. Excited to see Alick fall.

I didn't love this one. I felt there were a lot of missed opportunities and contrivances that didn't improve the story.

Adorable historical romance. I will admit that I expected a bit more spice, but the action was good and the characters were well done. The "villain" was perhaps a bit obvious and I didn't love that resolution but the Epiloge made up for it! I loved that everyone was reunited in the end!

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this one and even though I haven't read the first eight books in the series, I don't think I missed out on anything. With that said, I will definitely be picking up the rest as I'm curious to know more about Rory's family.

I thought Sands did a great job of building the trust and relationship between Rory and Elysande. She's been through a lot and her will to survive is definitely driving her forward. When she finally comes to realize she can rely on Rory to help her, the connection is clear.

I will be looking forward to picking up more books by Sands as this was a great introduction (for me) to her writing style and with a full cast of highlanders to catch up on, I think I will be diving right in.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

Just couldn’t like this book. There was barely any romance in it which was annoying. Rory had more personality in his brothers book then his entire book. The plot was interesting but could’ve been executed in a different way. When I reached page 300 I was like how is this shit going to be resolved. It was resolved lamely. Not to mention the “villain?” Come on how stupid.

Lynsay Sands is most definitely my favorite romance author, and her highland series my favorite series. The writing is fun, stories engaging, dialogue perfect. I loved Rory from the first book I read of this series (not the actual first book, I think I read Geordie’s first). He is intelligent and funny, and Elysande was a perfect match for him.

In spite of writing so many similar stories, each of Sands’ romances is different. Each relationship brings new trials and includes glimpses of the Buchanan family (though this one had less than I’d consider usual- basically just Alick).

While this story was dramatic, it was no more so than to be expected. And drama in highland romances is always fun. Everything was resolved by the end, with Sands tossing in a bit of humor in the epilogue. She closes out this one well.

Overall, 5 stars for sure. Can’t wait for Alick to find love next!
