This book seemed so very separate from the previous SEVEN books. This was a completely different plot. Like entirely. Complete shift. AND IT WAS STILL SO DUMB LIKE

So…I set a new personal record for fastest book read: 13 hours. Beats the selection, which was longer, and I even managed to finish at a relatively normal time. I don’t have words to describe what I felt while reading that book; for all that Restore Me lacked, this book made up for it in 10000 ways. The first 3/4 had me on the edge of my seat for Kenji, J, and Warner. There was so much suspense I almost died and couldn’t stop reading. Also, why tf is Anderson alive; I get it, he has healing powers, but the man’s died three times now. Anyway, I also really enjoyed the backstory of everything, because not only did it make everything so much clearer, but it also helped everyone’s character development. My favorite part of the book, though: Warner and J’s reunion. It gave me everything that I wanted; my heart couldn’t take them anymore I love them so much. Anyway, going to sleep and because I need to let my mind settle after that roller coaster.
Side note: I guess I know why the name Evie autocorrects to evil thanks to Evie Sommers. Cause yeah, that was weird, hearing my name in a book portraying an evil manipulative controlling mother.

Reuniting Juliette (Ella) and Warner was something I had been holding onto for this book and holy smokes did we get it. The intensity of the story leading up the last 10-ish chapters had me wondering if a happy ending was even in the stars for this book but it did indeed happen. And when I say happy ending, I just meant for this book, I’m definitely ready to jump into the next book and finally have more of a look at Aaron and Ella now that they’ve truly found each other.
Foreal this series is devastating. Like A+ on the depression scale

You can only milk a story so much before it runs dry. I’m not sure how we’re getting yet another book in this world.
“It's not insane to imagine that sometimes even horrible people are searching for a way out of their own darkness.”
So yes, I am one of those people who think the Shatter Me series should have remained a trilogy. The plot of this book felt like Tahereh Mafi was picking at the few remaining loose ends and scraps of her story in attempt at creating another book.
Kenji, Winston and Brendan are the only characters I could care to see more of. The scenes where they were present in Defy Me were the ones that had me the most engaged.
As for the actual plot, if you couldn’t already tell- I was severely disappointed. There isn’t much else to say about plot besides the fact that it was underwhelming in its attempts at grandeur.
It's really a shame, considering how much I loved some of the other instalments to the Shatter Me series. I wanted to love Defy Me just as much, and being let down by one of my beloved series was saddening.
“Happiness does not happen. Happiness must be uncovered, separated from the skin of pain. It must be claimed. Kept close. Protected.”
Let me just say this to all of you who have read this far into the series:
If Winston doesn’t confess his love to Brendan in Imagine Me, I will feel
