My dear friend from work has lent me another of the Wheel of Time books which I have meant to be reading these last few weeks. Unfortunately however that book starts with Rand who I cannot stand so I appealed to my father to lend me some more of his books. He gave me three and this was the one I chose to read first.

Now, I have at some point in my past 26 years read this before. I thought that a couple of the earlier 'stories' seemed familiar but it wasn't until the tale with the 'race to London' that I knew for sure I had read this before.

So, this book is 'set' around the time of WW1 and is basically lots of short 'tales' of life in the army. Now, it is funny in places I admit but not what I would call a great or a gripping read. I mean this is only 162 pages and it took me a whole week to read? I've read book double that in length in less than a day (actually if the book is really gripping I can read books even longer than that in a matter of hours... but still!).

Some of the stories are entertaining - I quite like the London one, and some of the others are all right (see the children's party, fire and shooting drill ones). But generally... not my cup of tea (I'm saying that a lot this year I think...)

That said I enjoyed this more than I am the Wheel of Time book so... yay!
