While I haven't yet ventured into Hunters of Dune, and so cannot adequately judge Brian Herbert's ability to match his fathers intellect or prose, it will is an eternal tragedy that Frank passed away before being able to finish his second trilogy to complete the Dune septet (with God Emperor acting as a literal time-bridge). The immensity of his vision, the complexity of his thought, and the neverending limit of his creativity are unmatched as a combination for any author I have yet experienced. The original Dune trilogy, while exceeding in its cerebrality, is Star Wars-esque in its scope, but it is his second "trilogy" that demonstrates the depth of his plan for the Dune universe and its view of the human condition, as well as humanity's potential. I cannot recommend this series highly enough.

Chapterhouse Dune I rate five stars because of the romance between Murbella and Duncan. It is a very powerful examination of love, I actually wish this was a theme explored more significantly in earlier books.
The books ends on a cliffhanger not really knowing the fate of Sheanna and Duncan or the precarious fate of Murbella who holds the two hostile forces in her power.
I thought the characters were really engaging especially Duncan and Murbella. The storyline was great though not quite as exciting as Heretics but the relationship and character development I think was the best of the entire series.
The series I think ages well and is worth a reread in a couple of years. There is so much content within the dialogue that I don’t think it’s quite possible to digest all of it in one read through. Herbert was a genius and it’s a shame he died before the series could be completed. I’m pretty conflicted because I want to know how the story ends but I’m not really interested in his sons interpretation.
Just for reference I rate this series 5/5. The only weak piece of the sage is book four and it has some okay components to it anyway. Dune is in my mind the greatest science fiction series and should be read in classes. Often when reading this series i thought how much I would have benefited having this series talked about it school. It’s not given enough notice. Hopefully the upcoming movie will do the first book some justice.

Finally finished with the Dune series. Been reading it intermittently from February to now. What a great series.
Chapterhouse took forever tbh. But what an ending? I wish Frank had lived a longer life. Not only for Dune's sake but that letter at the end to his wife? He was a wonderful human being.
Setting aside the more weird stuff in this book and the previous one. IYKYK of course.

the last chapter was the perfect way to end the series—the preceding six hundred pages makes the case for itself
