I think if you took Heretics and Chapterhouse, cut each of them into 200 pages each for a total of 400 pages, then reworked a bit of the plot to focus more on a few characters rather than 50, it could've been another dune book. It could've been the short introduction to the Scattering through the Honored Matres and set us up to face the Many Faces, Futars, and other Scattering factions.

Instead, I had to read about Bene Gesserit fighting a slightly sluttier Bene Gesserit called Honor Matres for 1200 pages, featuring lots of child abuse? And by fighting, I mean hiding and/or plotting.

Not as good as the other but I do think the beginning of this new trilogy was a interesting. My only issue was that I think he sacrificed the story for the sake of inserting his ideas and opinions. Not as strong as the first four books but still worth a read.

Finally finished this series. Truly I can't imagine a different ending, it felt like everything slotting into place. Unbelievable how much was fit into those 460 pages. Brimming with story and characters, a but hard to keep track of but mind blowing when it clicks
