Frank’s last work ends on a high note. Not perfect. Certainly still weird. But the scope and mix of characters are reminiscent of the 1st book. The posthumous dedication to his wife at the end of this book is simply beautiful and on its own is 5 stars.

Just finished Dune :') and I have mixed feelings (mostly because its just... so unresolved?)
Darwi Odrade is such a good character and I need more of her :')
Wonder what wormlord Leto would think of this ending omg
And what will become of the BG and HM now that they are united under Murbella???
I'm too invested please

Magnifiek.

and with that, the dune saga is complete! this a fitting conclusion. another lovely understated ending that gently sends you off as you finish the book, subtly wanting more from this gigantic universe.

unfortunately, in this book, i was bored.
in concept, it’s cool to stay on board with the bene gesserit for an entire book, but with the gargantuan amount of maneuvering and plans within plans and thinking and maneuvering and THINKING, it got very monotonous in order for the last ~60 pages to finally let loose the potential energy the previous ~400 pages was saving up. and those last ~60 pages were SICK. but it doesn’t absolve my previous boredom.

still an excellently written book, though. frank herbert is a master and this is no exception. his isms just got to be a little too much in this book specifically.

Not his best but not his worst.
