The perfect “kindle to bed” book! A cozy romance set in a Stars Hollow like town and a bunch of Jane Austen references.

This book was so cute! It was littered with Jane Austen references and had a good story to it.

Dr. Charlotte Rodiquez has sworn off men after being cheated on, and has decided to get a puppy instead. When her coworker/neighbour George agrees to help train her puppy, a friendship is struck up. George has been in love with Charlotte since he met her, but can he content with her Puppy Pact?

I liked George (though he was about the furthest thing on this planet from Mr. Darcy) and Charlotte. I thought their chemistry built up well, and I liked how they each had a personality. The dogs, of course, were also a plus.

This is a cute quick read for those hoping for a romance with dogs and Jane Austen!

Lizzie Shane’s, “Pride and Puppies” was thoroughly enjoyable. There was a lot packed into this book, including: lovable main characters, adorable dogs and just the right amount of emotional packaging. I liked how much depth the two main characters had; they were flawed but very human. There were times that I wanted to strangle Charlotte because she wouldn’t deal with her issues. That said I never once thought, “Just talk to each other!”, like I have in other romance novels because the strife in the relationship was so believable and real.

This book does not contain a ton of spice. The romance itself is very believable and you can tell that they are attracted to each other. Whether by a pointed choice or because the author just shied away from it, there is one mutely spicy kiss in the book, and that is absolutely it. So, if you are looking for on page spice this book will leave you frustrated.

Overall, I liked this book. The story and strife were believable and had me invested. You find yourself rooting for the main characters, which is always a bonus in a romance. The perfect sweet romance.

Content warnings: parent death, cancer and emotional cheating.

This book is adorable but also frustrating to read at times because it’s a constant cycle of “I like them but I’m not worthy enough for them” in different situations and forms. But there is definitely growth and I think the characters are very lovable and pretty realistic.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Pride & Puppies”- Lizzie Shane

I don’t think I’ve read a book this fast since I read Abby Jimenez’s “Yours Truly” ARC when it was first released on NetGalley.

I started reading this at the airport and instead of taking a much needed nap, I kept reading until the plane landed. Reality set in so it took me just a few days to finish but still, it was a quick read for me and my busy schedule.

Anyways, who couldn’t love a Rom-Com involving Jane Austen & puppies!?! I loved how relatable the mane character, Charles, was. Hell even George’s character was relatable.

Also who couldn’t want to jump in to the page and want to snuggle Duke & Bingley. I don’t want to give too much away….but this is an absolute must read if you love rom-coms, classic romantic literature, and canines!

I wanted to like this book. I loved the idea, the first 60 pages were really interesting and got me so excited, buuuuuut... it was just too repetitive and the conflict was really lame.

I don't enjoy books about constant self-sabotage. A friend tells the protagonists to do something, and the protagonists do it in the worst way possible and then they regret it. Over, and over, and over, and over again. Charlotte was just plain dumb sometimes, she never listened to anyone and was constantly in denial. She was just not an engaging protagonist. And George was just so bland. He had so much potential because he had the whole "pining for someone who doesn't notice me" going on (I'm a sucker for that) but he had this mentality of "I'm stuck in the friend zone and I will do nothing about it" and it made him so pitiful.

If there's a lot of plain BAD communication, does it still count as the miscommunication trope? There's so much of it in this book. They just assume stuff about the other and then never talk about what they need. It's so tiring to read about because the emotional conflict just feels so repetitive and stupid.

The characters were insufferable or boring, including the friends and their families. A couple of non-important side plots that *should* make me care for the lives of the protagonists and the world that they live in, but they just fell short and underdeveloped. I just wanted for someone to take the book away and end my misery.

This book was nothing short of adorable and fluffy just like Bingley.

Highly recommend this book if you love Jane Austen novels and dogs. The book was a very adorable read and had me vying for the main characters to fall in love and have their happy ending. I enjoyed the lead female characters energy, her enthusiasm and also her self esteem issues. The male character brings a sense of calmness and gentleness. I was so thrilled with the puppy and dog story, as the helped to connect the couple. The Austen quotes were very captivating at the beginning of each chapter. Such a beautiful connection of classic romance novels and modern one. I read this book quite quickly as I was wanting to have a happy ending.
