Pride & Puppies

Cute hallmark romance! If you like a play on Pride and Prejudice with dogs this it! Thank you for the arc!

Pride and Puppies is the 4th in a series but even though I own two of the previous books, I haven’t read them! This was easily stand alone, although the others take place in the same town. This one is about Charlotte, who makes a “puppy pact,” in which she adopts a puppy and stops dating. By the way, I think the title of the book should have been The Puppy Pact! This is not a Pride and Prejudice retelling, but it does include Jane Austen quotes at the beginning of the chapters and Charlotte and her sisters do enjoy Austen. ⁣After swearing off dating, Charlotte then begins to fall for her good friend George, who is new in town and trying to make a home away from his family. He was such a sweet character and I enjoyed rooting for the friends to acknowledge their feelings for each other! ⁣

A small poodle is lying on a fluffy blanket with a softcover book to her right. A silk sunflower is between her front paws. The book is Pride and Puppies by Lizzie Shane.

Happy Saturday! PRIDE & PUPPIES by Lizzie Shane is the 4th book in the Pine Hollow Series. I enjoy the series because it has a small town feel and there are puppies involved. In this book, I enjoyed the characters. However, the "friends to lovers" plot dragged a bit and lacked sparks. George was a bit too perfect. He needed some character flaws. I am glad Charlotte and George eventually found their happily ever after. This novel is a feel-good romance with lots of great Jane Austen’s quotes and two cute puppies in it. You can’t go wrong with that.

lighthearted

3.5 stars!
This is part of a series, but still worked as a standalone. It was a quick and light read! I thought it was adorable and I appreciated the small Austen references throughout.

Thank you NetGally for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really wanted to love this book because I adore dogs (and cats!) and am also a Jane Austen fan. In the end, I found the book to be fine. I felt the story dragged on too long and a lot of 'woe is me' from each of the main characters. For the male main character, I was starting to get the feeling that George's attitude was one of entitlement; I'm such a nice guy! with a decent job! why am I friend-zoned! why don't women like me! I just don't vibe with that attitude. Until Charlotte stepped in to volunteer George for activities in the community, he complained about not feeling like he belonged or new people, well duh, you aren't making much of an effort.

There were some nice scenes in the book: when George helps take care of Charlotte after her injury. The compassion George has for his sisters, especially Beks. Charlotte's enthusiasm for life and love for her family and friends.

At the end of the day, like I said, it was fine.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this book not knowing it was part of a series and I still LOVED it. The town, the characters, the dogs!!! Love a good Pride and Prejudice retelling and this puppy-centric romcom was such a perfect, cozy book. It was a little flat at points, but overall so worth reading.

You will love Pride and Puppies if you like:

After failing at yet another relationship, Dr. Charlotte Rodriguez decides she’s had it with men. She then vows that rather than investing anymore effort in finding THE ONE, she would get herself an adorable puppy. A puppy that would love her unconditionally. But, Charlotte would need help in raising her new pup since she’s brand new to pet adoption, pet training, and pet raising. So who better to help with training than her neighbor and co-worker, George Leneghan. After all, George had a dog of his own. Perfect!

George and Charlotte were more than just co-workers. They were friends in every sense of the word. They could talk, commiserate, laugh, and act as sounding boards to each other. That’s what best friends do, right? And then, their friendship seemed to evolve into something more…Or was it Charlotte’s wild imagination?

Pride & Puppies is a wonderful contemporary romance novel and you don’t even have to be a fan of Jane Austen.

There’s just a handful of characters. Wonderfully fleshed out in a way that I connected with all of them. I certainly enjoyed Charlotte, George as well as their siblings. And Charlotte’s close friends really made for some fun entertainment. Author Shane has a talent for developing her characters that make for not only comedic moments, but heartfelt and poignant moments as well.

The narrative follows a friends to lovers trope and it is clear that Shane has clearly sketched out the plot, the turns, and the ultimate outcome. I laughed, I cried, and in the end I was left with an overall warm and fuzzy feeling.

Pride & Puppies is one of those novels that will have you wanting to read more from author, Shane. It’s a must read for fans of Marina Adair, and Annie Rains. Five swoon worth stars.

I received a physical ARC from Forever (GCP.) The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

This was a very cute adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with other Jane Austen quotes and character references sprinkled throughout.

Dr. Charlotte Rodriguez and her sisters love Jane Austen. And Charlotte is searching for her own Mr. Darcy, except the broody, aloof men she's been dating are just that. Broody and aloof. So now she's going to avoid dating and adopt a puppy instead. George Leneghan is her neighbour, co-worker and a fellow dog owner. He's kind, patient and just an overall great guy. So how does George get out of the friend-zone and get Charlotte to see him as a hero in her story?

The story started out strong and I loved that these were just two simple, quiet people who slowly and quietly fell in love. But halfway through the constant self-sabotage and low self esteem from both main characters began to drag the plot down with no help from the supporting characters.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
