I enjoyed the middle eastern elements of this story and the bond between the protagonist and his talking animal companion but I found it a bit racist and culturally insensitive towards the Muslim religion and middle easterners.

Rereading, this is my second reading, originally read it as a teenager in the 90s. It's still my least favorite in the series but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would the second time around. It moves at a fairly good pace and though I'm less interested in these characters they have some charm and it has some of my favorite Aslan sightings, His interaction with Aravis was especially formative to me as a teen and stuck with me for a long time in how we should treat people or we may find ourselves feeling their pain eventually.

“so that years later, when they were grown up, they were so used to quarreling and making up that they got married, so as to go on doing it more conveniently”
