I've had the Rubiyat on my to read list for a while, and to be honest I was not impressed. The poems are about getting and staying drunk. As a recovering alcoholic with 37 years clean and sober I just don't see the emphasis on the grape as a great thing. I see the work as showing the worst underside of the Islamic world.
