This is a dystopian novel with a premise that is scarily realistic, which makes this read all the more terrifying. We follow the story of Mary, a woman who was there when the infection began, and we are shown flashbacks of the horrific things she endured while trying to find safety, in a new word where no one has the answers. This was a really gripping read, one which pulled me in right from the start. It is gorey, violent, and harrowing, yet bittersweet. It raises interesting questions when it comes to morals, and really gets you thinking what you'd personally do if you had to make the decisions in a post-pandemic world where men could turn murderous if exposed to the outside world.

This was a very slow burn kind of a story, but it was good. The ending epilogue really made me emotional.
Was surprised that trans men were not mentioned at all, I though it was relevant to the story but I was not able to see even one story exploration in here regarding their fate. Intersex persons were mentioned only once and a trans woman had a story that was important to the plot so there is at least that! Excited for book 2🤞
