Despite owning this book since the day it was released I’ve never read it until now. I heard many bad things about the book, primarily that it was a let down in the romance department. I had even heard there was no real romance involved in the plot. I was pretty disappointed in this news and assumed it would be something along the lines of how That Summer had played out. After finally getting around to reading it I can say I wish I hadn’t let other people talk me out of it. Despite my growing up, I’ve never quite outgrown Dessen. The way she tells a story feels like home to me. It’s a place I can tuck myself away and hide, a read that will leave me content. I’m actually glad about the way things played out in this novel.
I really loved the characters. I loved the voice she used and word choice. I enjoyed the history between the town and its people. I enjoyed it but thought that it was somewhat predictable. I could predict what would happen about four or so chapters before it happened. My predictions were correct. I needed a bigger moment, a huge plot twist. Something that would make me angry and throw the book across the room (but I'd really love it because of its beautiful writing). Or something that would make me so overjoyed and happy I'd throw myself across the room (kind of like when John Green threw himself at a wall. I just wanted some moment that would make me really feel something, something different. Something that hasn't been done, just with different characters in a different setting.
Disappointed...usually love Sarah Dessen. Seemed like she was trying way to hard to have "good quotes" and just didn't work for me.

I've noticed with her books they start off strong and then the end kind of tapers away. I liked the story here and am glad with how things turned out, it just could have been better.

The Dessen Universe dives deeper into life at Colby, but ultimately leaves the reader dissatisfied.
Hmm, bit disappointing really. It had it's moments, but for the most part it lacked a lot of her classic story traits - interesting back story, over coming something. The love story left me cold for the most part too sadly :(
