I always love the finish to Sarah Dessen's books as they're so gentle and as perfect as can be said. I thought this book was great and a little bit different than the path her books usually follow. There were some sneaky references to some of her other books with past characters and band reference which I found very enjoyable.

SPOILER: I think it was fantastic that the main character Emeline didn't end up with a partner but good friends and a half-brother who loves her and was not worried about future relationship because there are many single people out there who are scared they will end up alone but don't realise that they have time to meet the right person.

END OF SPOILER

To end off, Sarah Dessen is an amazing writer and this book was good.
Happy reading!

I really like this book. In some ways, it is very relatable. I have a father who (like Emmaline's) is not very close to me. And from this book, I learned that I just need to care for the people who have been there for me. Though, I would like to know more about what happened to Theo at the end of this book. This was a good book...but there wasn't much of a plot. But I really liked it anyway.

OHMYgosh. Disappointed. What happened to Julian? She just left the ending like some of her other novels. Their relationship was kind of out of the blue and then he ends up being a jerk and then he's gone...like what's the point?

Dessen used to be one of my favorite writers or YA. This one reallllllly disappointed. It took forever for me to finish it. Mainly unlikable characters, or perhaps they were all so damned unlikable because they were filtered though the narrator's jaundiced, judgmental view?

Both male protagonists were bad. Hipster A vs. Hipster B, or Big City Hipster vs. Small Town Hipster. Add in a pain in the ass family that has no idea what boundaries are, and the same small town Colby we've seen for umpteen books, and I'm sorry, but I'm SPENT. No mas!

I enjoyed this. A couple implausible phrases or plot points, and the secondary characters weren't as well developed as in her best books, but props to Sarah Dessen for finally breaking out of writing the same book over and over again. A good summer, beachy read, especially since it's set at the beach.

The thing is, you cant always have the best of everything. Because for a life to be real, you need it all: good and bad, beach and concrete, the familiar and the unknown, big talkers and small towns
