Nerilka the whole first chapter: My sisters are ugly. I’m ugly. Our parents look great but the girls all suck. Well, one of my little sisters is dainty so maybe she won’t grow up to be such a dogface like the rest of us. My brothers even have eyelashes! But not us ugly ugly girls. I’m the only one who didn’t get to go to the plague party in the last book, and I wouldn’t have even been too embarrassed about how ugly I am to enjoy myself there, I swear! My impossibly perfect pretty friend helped me be prettier but she died and I’m even uglier now. Do I have any personality traits? Too ugly to tell.

A novella based on one of the minor characters in the novel Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern. If you can't get enough of Pern, this is something to read for sure; otherwise reading Moreta will do the job!

I liked this book, it was a quick read and kind of cool to see from Nerilka's point of view as she was just a minor character in the previous book. However, it was not terribly exciting and about 80% of the book was exactly the same events as the previous one, just from a different point of view. I did appreciate the last 20% where you get to see a few characters you care about end up in different places. Overall, I was not hugely impressed but I did like it well enough. I look forward to reading about something different, the first Fall on Pern, in the next book.

Just a tale of life happenings for a period

Its been a good 25 years or more since I read my last Pern adventure. This has been sitting on a shelf for exactly 30 years and I've finally read it! And I loved it as much as I did all the others so long ago. Unlike another book that I recently finished, McCaffrey's stories always move at a good pace. She never wastes a page. It's a great ride every time
