This book was not what I expected. It was well written so I quickly fell into the captivating pace of the story. The murder mystery kept me intrigued while the supernatural elements somewhat fit this time of year...
It held a bit too much gore, violence and drug use to be a great read but it was something different for me. And the characters were fairly deep and well connected.

It had such an interesting story concept. I thought it started out decently enough, and then more and more characters were introduced and I started thinking - Stephen King. The man can have dozens of characters in his books. Of course his books aren't 346 pages long. They're more like 1,346 pages long - long enough to have character development.

I can't decide which character I felt the most for, but it may have been Isabella's parents (or at least her mother). The men were all psycho or just asses. The women were clueless, stupid, insensitive, or just a personality type I can't understand (the whole abusive relationship thing just was something I could never make sense of).

The chapters in italics were annoying at best. Was that someone's clever idea to spoon-feed the reader with "THIS IS THE PAST"?

The wrap up at the end was priceless! I don't have a problem with endings not being nice and tidy because life doesn't always punish the guilty and the good guys don't always come out on top. This one though, almost had me giggling.

Describing the story to my mother (who got all the details - I'd hate to have to do a spoiler alert in my review),she asked about the climax of the story. Without hesitation, I told her the climax was being able to say I finished it.

I really wanted to like this book and I still believe it has a strong concept. Perhaps it should have been a longer book. Maybe then the characters would have been stronger and I would feel something more (good or bad) for more of them.

I was really disappointed actually. It took me a long time to really get into the story (about 8 chapters in) and then the way it ended was just a complete let down. What happened to the main character!!?! It just leaves way too many questions open ended. Honestly it was all just too dark for me.
