Poet's efforts to put emotions on paper, Shadow's ability to reflect pain, loneliness and hopelessness in his drawings, Lucy's determination to locate the tortured graffiti artist and a simple story written in an amazing manner earns it a 4/5 rating!

This book was fantastic. I loved that it was funny and emotional and sweet. Perfect YA contemporary.

This is a super cute slice of life YA romance between two budding artists that takes place over one night. I loved how naive Lucy learns that there's more to Ed than meets the eye, and not to build people up in her head so much. And I loved how Ed learns that he's worth more than he thinks, and that while his path might be different, he does have a bright future.

Quite simply, this is my favourite book ever. Just read it.

First I saw that cover. Then I saw the glowing reviews. I knew that I had to read this book. The premise sounds very intriguing, right? There are probably no other books out there about a graffiti artist. There's something utterly romantic about the idea of a boy illegally spray painting art. Add a 24 hour adventure in the vein of Nick & Norah, and you have one fantastic book on your hands.

It has been a really long time since I read a book where every single character is completely likeable. Lucy was determined and witty. Ed was tough but also kind of sensitive. I really loved their friends too. It seems like more often than not I don't like friends in books, but these were hilarious. They had their own side stories too.

The book is told from alternating perspectives. You get a glimpse inside both Ed and Lucy's heads and I must say that Cath Crowley is a master of complex and realistic characters.

All of that being said the book did lack just a tiny bit of something that would have made it amazing for me. I'm not sure what it was, but I ultimately still adored it. It was a fun and quick read, but it also had a lot of heart. I recommend it.

Graffiti Moon is a coming of age story that takes place over the course of an evening, featuring a group of teens who all have to learn something about themselves and their place in life.
Our main character is in love with the mysterious Shadow, a graffiti artist whose drawings offer her hope. Over the course of the book she and her friends decide to tag along with some mutual friends to see if they can catch a glimpse of the elusive Shadow and Poet. What she doesn’t realise is that the person she’s in love with is actually the boy she’s tagging along with.
The story itself was not particularly dramatic. There’s some nice sections where the characters talk about art and what it means to them.

6 stars = perfection on paper

Best Books of 2012

I have to admit, I was slightly hesitant to read this book when I managed to grab an ebook ARC at the beginning of the year. But what a truly wonderful surprise this ended up being for me.

Lucy is obsessed with meeting an infamous graffiti artist named Shadow. One night she and her best friend run into two boys who claim to know who Shadow is and will help them look for him. We quickly learn that one of the boys, Ed, went on a disastrous blind date with Lucy which ended in her accidentally on purpose breaking his nose. So, the tension between Ed and Lucy starts off as more than a little frosty.

And there is also the fact that Ed is Shadow.

Okay, maybe the premise does sound a bit silly and convoluted. However, from the first page, this story completely took me over. It is unlike anything I have had the pleasure of reading before. The writing style is unique in that I didn't really feel like I was reading a book, but listening in to a conversation. Which only made me enjoy the experience more.

Lucy and Ed go on an all-night adventure visiting some of the places that are special to Shadow, and in the course of only a few hours the characters bond in a way that was both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Crowley has such a way with words that I found myself wondering where the hell she has been all my life.

Even though it has been several months since I read this book, the story has stayed with me, and is still near the very top of my list of the best books I have read in 2012.

Loved the genuine characters. Loved the atmosphere of the city at night so alive,so Melbourne. Loved the romantic plot, nothing squeeky clean or clear cut. What more can a girl say/ oh, maybe just ... please keep them coming Cath!
