This was my first book by Marian Adair and was so sweet. I loved the sibling relationship arc and the second chance romance aspects of the story that were perfectly written. The humour was great and the story had all the cozy feels of a solid romance novel. I loved how the author kept things light and the pacing of the story didn’t drag. I especially loved that the main characters were older and had pasts.

This story has strong women’s fiction vibes. I’d still say the romance between Teagan and Colin is a main part of the story, the other part of Teagan’s journey is just as important. I’ll be frank, there was a point in this story where I was begging the author to let Teagan and Colin find their way to each other. Not because it was a slow burn or was even taking too long. It truly wasn’t. But both of them were being put through the wringer and I wanted them to have a safe space to land with each other.

There are a lot of relationships going on here. Teagan and Colin, of course. But there are also children and siblings and exes thrown into the mix. Colin was Teagan’s first love and vice versa. Things didn’t end great and there is some resentment. It was wonderful to watch these two get over their anger and feelings of abandonment and talk. That also happens, eventually, with Teagan and her sister Harley. They used to be close but were separated by their parents and never quite understood each other after that. There is so much resentment there, but once they open up about their real feelings it’s so beautiful to see these sisters start to reconnect.

While for the most part the characters, once this story got moving, did take a step back instead of giving into their temper when things got intense, there were words said in anger that just hurt me to the core. There is also a time or two Teagan makes some poor choices, in my opinion, but she does so out of love for her children. Yet truly, some of her actions broke my heart.

This story is a bit of a roller coaster but in a good way. When Teagan and Colin are on the page as a couple, there is so much warmth and love coming off the page. This is an engaging and lovely book.

Right from the start the world building done by the author Marina Adair had grabbed my attention and I wanted to keep going to find out more. Our main female lead Teagan is a Mom of twins who doesn’t have it all together but she is going to try to start over. Her toxic ex husband needs rehab for his gambling addiction. She got out of their relationship with a divorce and paying back his debts to start herself of anew in her Nonna’s house with her twins.
She just hadn’t counted on her first love that she left broken hearted living right next door. Or her sister living in the house without her knowing for quite some time.

I liked the male lead Colin’s character from the start because he is just trying to raise his teen daughter without her getting over on him with the usual teen shenanigans. He was also a very caring individual. He cares about this woman who just came back into his life even though she broke his heart. He cares about the animals at the vet practice where he works and is so frustrated that the owner just sees the dollar signs. Colin gives his opinion and pays attention.

Teagan frustrated me at times but she was supposed to do that. She has to deal with getting over the toxic relationship her ex husband put her through and how it is effecting her twin daughters, protect them and let them heal from losing their two parent home. She wants to rebuild herself not only as a woman but as a business woman with her Nonna’s bread business, which her husband ruined.

Thank you Kensington Books and Marina Adair for the opportunity to read this very enjoyable galley prior to publication.
