This book is a retelling of a traumatic, life-altering event of EV Knight’s teenage self. I commend her for reliving these horrific days and taking back her story in the form of this heartbreaking novella. The way the author describes Josey’s trauma response is hard to follow at times, but I imagine this lack of clarity is a reflection of dissociation. Tarot cards and a shift in spirituality is a minor focus.

Normally I don't read other reviews before at least jotting a few thoughts down of my own. But I don't know how to review this. Like people have said, I did not enjoy reading this but it's not the kind of book you are supposed to enjoy reading. I didn't like the writing style but I also feel like the on-the-nose style is subversive in a world where womens' bodies are danced around with metaphors and figures of speech when talking about rape and sexual assault. I thought the symbolism and speculative element were well done.

Ev Knight describes this as speculative autofiction - a vehicle for expressing agency and control over her own narrative. Although at times an incredibly difficult read, this novella is a cathartic reshaping of past trauma that facilitates empowerment and personal introspection. I believe books like these to be as much a therapeutic exercise for the author as entertainment for the reader and I have difficulty placing that kind of endeavour into a rating system. Three Days in the Pink Tower is a work of reclamation that as a woman I could do nothing but fully support.

"There is power here. Men call women whores because they fear them, because they fear the power they hold between their legs and secrets of creation within their cells. Take the moniker, if you must, but do not fear."

This is an incredibly powerful story based on the author's real life kidnapping and assault. In it, the author takes control of her own story. The author becomes the creator, representing The Universe in tarot. I love that she took her power back.

This novella was difficult to get through. There are graphic details of SA that the author doesn't shy away from. This made me feel physically sick at some points.
Given the graphic nature of the story, I can't recommend this to everyone. Check trigger warnings and make sure you're mentally prepared if you decide to read this.

While I can't say this was an enjoyable read, I can say that it had a powerful message.

I hope that writing this story helped the author heal from the trauma of the past.

This was a hard book to get through and so is also a hard book to review. It’s such a powerful novella that I can’t imagine giving it anything less than 5 stars but this also isn’t necessarily something you enjoy reading. I will be thinking about this for days, the writing, the emotions, the look at what one person had to endure to survive, and how you make your story your own. Be aware of the triggers before reading this (kidnapping, torture, rape) but if you can, I would recommend Three Days in the Pink Tower, it’s a superb feminist
