From the very beginning of the book, E. V. Knight sets a tone of eeriness and dread. This book, set over the course of four days, depicts Josey's kidnapping and her time held hostage. During this time, Josey looks to her most recent tarot reading to understand and take control of her situation and her life.
Probably in part because this is a work of speculative auto-fiction, the horror elements were very visceral. While I did read it all in one day, I had to take some breaks while reading because of this.
This is an amazing novella that is able to skillfully depict things from teenage friend dynamics to what it means to be a survivor.
