This summery read set in an exclusive beachside community had few redeeming qualities. It is a book that can be devoured in one or two sittings. The overblown reaction to things like losing a tennis match was funny. The close-knit vibes of Salcombe were nicely depicted through activities like the 4th of July fireworks and the end-of-season talent show.

An attention grabbing opening scene is important for most novels. The discovery of the body in the opening chapter is successful at reeling readers in. In my opinion, the author stung readers on by not revealing who the body belonged to with less than 5% left in the book. It is horrible to say but the author chose the wrong character to kill off. Including cheating in a story within itself is not a flaw, it is how often it is referenced to that makes it less intriguing. The scene at the ferry dock was infuriating.
