It was a good, well written book. But it did not need to be that long. I felt like some parts were just dragging. What I liked was that the addiction was portrayed somewhat believably. I loved that dogs were the part of the story and I also liked that the author told us Lachlan's childhood right away. It was dual POV which I prefer. I was a bit dissapointed about Kayla's excuses for Lachlan, but how it was written is realistic for a lot of women, I guess.

Karina Halle warned her readers that this was an emotional book, that it was going to tug at our hearts and never let go, and she wasn't kidding. The prologue - gutted. The dog rescuing - fell in love. Seeing the story unfold from both Kayla's and Lachlan's points of view - hooked. It's hot, steamy, and undoubtedly an emotional roller coaster.

"I understand these dogs. I know what it’s like to be cast aside, to feel unwanted, to believe you have no one to fight for you. I’ve been there. Time and time again. It hurts like all hell, but if I don’t fight for them, who will?"

Halle's ability to write poignant lines that pack humor and emotional is what makes me love her writing. I am in awe of her style - impeccable timing; deliberate, meticulous character development; and incredibly steamy sex scenes. I can never consume her words fast enough when I pick up one of her books.

There was nothing I could do.
She’s a riptide.
I’m just a man without oars.

How is it possible that a book is so long and detailed and introduces things in the moment just because that don’t have any longtime meaning.

In general, the book was meh. I didn’t like Kayla, I didn’t like Lachlan, I don’t even know why I continued to finish the whole book.

Really "I can fix him (no really I can)" impersonated.

Blown away!

Wow, this is only my third book by Karina that I have read and I love her to pieces. I have to say I was favoring Bram but lach is my favorite for sure with Bram closely behind him. I can't wait to read more from karina.

I love Karina Halle. Period. I love that she supports rescue dogs and that she dedicated parts of her novel the fight the stereotype of pit bulls being bad dogs. I loved that part. But sadly I didn't love the rest of this book. It was okay. My problem is that Kayla isn't that likable to me and Lachlan is just the typical brooding anti-hero. That's it. Their connection isn't as believable as it has been with other characters but worst of all, I felt that Nicola and Steph are terrible friends. This whole group doesn't work.

This book had me laughing, crying, cussing, and cheering! I love EPIC stories. To be epic, I must feel something for all the characters, and I felt all of their emotions! Karina Hale truely wrote a steamy emotional roller coaster. Just be sure to take your time because this one gives you a major book hangover.
