I found myself surprised by the length and depth of this story. I enjoyed The Pact and The Offer so I was excited to get Kayla's story. I listened to the audiobook, and as with the earlier entries in the series, the accents were terrible, especially when the performers were doing the opposite voices-but the story was so compelling I didn't consider turning it off.

Lachlan and Kayla's relationship takes a relatively long time to develop, which is surprising given what we know of her attitude toward men. But it has an expiration date from the start, since Lachlan is visiting from Scotland to spend time with his cousins while recovering from an injury that has sidelined him from the rugby pitch.

When the story seemed to be moving toward it's conclusion, I was surprised to discover I was only about 10 hours into a 17-hour audiobook. At that point I didn't see how she could draw the story out in a way that didn't feel forced or artificial, but Karina Halle totally pulled it off.

This is definitely a heavier story than either The Pact or The Offer, but it's completely worth the effort!

What a pleasant surprise! I liked The Pact and The Offer well enough so I wasn't expecting much from this one. Boy, was I wrong. This book completely blindsided me. It was sexy, hot, and very touching. The second half of the book is definitely an emotional read. Also, I'd like to say that as an Asian woman, it was nice to have a heroine who was (half) Asian and wasn't riddled with stereotypes! Love this book.

2.9 stars. I liked the first half, but then was kind of bored and had to force myself to finish.

The Play was a deep, meaningful romance that left me with so many feelings... it's hard to put them into words. It was refreshing to read about a Hero like Lachlan with dark and deep flaws that weren't just smoothed over in a few pages. Kayla was a heroine who embodied more strength and self-worth than I could have ever expected. That combination made this a tremendous read.

3.5 stars

"Lachlan McGregor, savior of the game, is staring at me.
It's me.
Always me for him.
Always him for me.
Our eyes are locked together".

"But what a beautiful thing ti have, a love so deep that it can bring people to their very knees. A love that can rise from the ashes, greater and stronger than ever".

I love the other couples, but this one touch my heart a bit more. Lachlan and Kayla just got to me that bit more!!!! So amazing!!!

This is a longer book than I'm used too.

Review to come... maybe.

4.5 stars. Love these characters, their chemistry, and the romance! Kayla and Lachlan were incredibly cute (and incredibly hot). I wouldn't mind at all if Karina kept writing books that involve romance + travel in even the smallest of ways.

I love Lachlan McGregor!

This book is Karina Halle's best book so far. I can't say enough about Lachlan McGregor, one of the most perfectly imperfect men I have had the pleasure of reading about in a long time. His background will just rip your heart out from the very beginning of this book. Kayla is a firecracker and I loved her for that. I loved Lionel and Emily and it was nice to have moments with some old friends from The Offer and The Pact. This book should have been called The Heat because holy hotness! There are definitely some hot Scottish sexy times that were amazing! Karina Halle is now an auto-buy author for me and this book is a must read!
