"And for the rest, though you have a man’s vigorous brain, you have a woman’s heart, and—it would not do.”

Wow! I loved this! Can't wait to see all the adaptations... Charlotte is witty, fun, entertaining writer!

Jane is a true heroine & the way she talks to us readers is amazing! Jane is brave and never disregards what her woman's heart wants. We could all learn from that!

OH JANE. Love it. The audiobook by Thandie Newton is especially good.

this took me a lot.
i feel so guilty for not liking this one.

I have always been interested in the brontë sisters and this is the first book I have read about one of them. Starting to read the book I was super deep into seeing what would become of Jane, then the writing starts to slow down and I feel that some things are extra, and Rochester seems to me at first like the "man of your dreams", but then their attitudes are rude)?. Jane, dear, you really did not need a man who treats you like that (I know that at that time that was not "frowned upon")
One thing I really like is the religious trauma, but it gets tired and tired once you dig in more.

I like Jane
I don’t like Rochester
I don’t like Saint John
All the woman in this book are incredible and amazing.

This is one of my favourite books of all time. Every time I read it, I love it more, and understand it more.

Jane is a character who I have identified strongly with ever since I first read this book as a teenager. I love her strength, her intelligence, her compassion and her independent spirit. I love that she strives to improve herself, and that she does not do things which go against her nature. She stands up for what she believes in, and puts everything into the things she does.

Some say that they do not like the relationship she has with Rochester, but in these I see two people who accept each other for who they are. In a world where women were often looked down on and seen only in terms of how useful they were or how beautiful they were, Rochester sees Jane for who she truly is, and views her as an equal.

Some of the quotes in this are astounding, the writing is so beautiful and evocative, giving a real sense of the atmosphere and the times that the book was set. I think my favourite quote from this has to be this one, though:

"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will, which I will now exert to leave you."

I have read this book so many times over the years, and I am sure I will read it many times in the future.
