A very fun -fanfiction i'd say- assassin's creed story

Not quite as engrossing as I hoped it would be.
Some of the problem, I think, is that there was too much interference between the kids and their ancestors: Because we were still seeing the kids' perspectives whilst they were in the Animus, it kind of pulled away and distracted from the story and characterizations for their ancestors. I feel like if there had been little to no interjections from the kids during their time in the Animus, and we'd just heard the stories of their ancestors, it would have been a lot more engrossing.
Otherwise, in general, I'd say that the character development for the kids was kind of choppy and poorly written. Owen and Javier get the most character development- but frankly, that's not saying much.

It is set in the Assassin's Creed universe that I love which is why I picked it up in the first pace.
It was a good book but I didn't enjoyed it as much as the other Assassin's Creed books. The story was good and it was executed good enough but my main problem was the fact tat the majority of the story took place in the present and not in the past, as I am used to by the other books. I prefer the Assassin's Creed books I read to be entirely in the past and not mentioning Abstergo and Animus at all.
That said I will continue with series.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected. I haven't played the game, so ymmv depending on your experience with it, but the book had an interesting premise, likeable characters, and plenty of action. I loved how diverse the cast was, and it definitely left me hoping to read more of the series.

Enjoyable book for an Assassin's Creed fan. Maybe a little hard to understand if you don't know anything about the concept of Animus and Abstergo. It's definitely targeted middle school kids in it's language and the small amount of history included in the story if you compare it with the games. The romance is reduced to hugs and there are alot of direct speech. Makes it a quick but still an enjoyable read for a fan like me.
I like that it has it's parallels with the game and it's original character, Shay the templar. But again, the connection will be totally lost, if you haven't played the games too.
Though there is a thing I've been thinking about; Why do you write an Assassin's Creed book targeting Middle-graders if you have to be 18 to even play the game?

As one of the big video game IPs at present, trying to translate Assassin's Creed into the YA space is an obvious choice. As a gamer who is familiar with the Assassin's Creed lore on a fairly basic level, this felt like a pretty honest and representative entry into the series and it generally felt like Assassin's Creed. Given the nature of the game, this is tough to achieve, so that's to the book's credit and is worth noting, but I can't imagine this having much in the way of crossover appeal unless you're already a fan.

I got an ARC of this through work and decided to read it because I love the game series. I have played many of the games and really enjoy the concept of the Animus and the whole idea of the Precusor society. We got a great glimpse of where the games can be heading in Assassin's Creed Syndicate and I think this series is going to shed more light on these events too.
For those not familiar with the games the basis premise is, generally, you play as part of the Brotherhood of Assassin's who believe in freedom for all and the ability to make your own free choices. They fight against the Templars, who believe that peace and freedom can only be achieved through control and subjugation. Both sides are really fighting for the same thing, but want to get there in very different ways.
This series introduces a series of teens who are connected, through their ancestors, to many points in time. They are Templars, Assassins, everyday people, whose memories all hold the key to a major event. An event that could change everything.
It is a great start to a series, and a great chapter in the always expanding Assassin's Creed legacy. Fans of the series will like that it expands in places the games haven't yet and introduces all these great new characters.
