This was a really fast and immersive read. It introduces the history and politics in a very easy to learn gradual way, and the characters were interesting to read about.

Justina Ireland is AMAZING! Zombies, strong female characters, mystery, alternate history… I could keep going and going. Dread Nation follows Jane McKeene as she learns to fight off the zombies who have risen from the battlefields of Gettysburg and Chancellorsville and the many adventurous turn of events in her life. I love how Ireland has created this alternate history to the end of the Civil War, it completely sucks you in. Though this is written for young adults (I would recommend at least high school or older), this 30 something year old was completely enthralled.

The concept is compelling. I enjoyed it overall, but felt there was some disconnect between parts one and two as the story experienced such a radical shift in the middle of the same book.

LOVE the main character, such a great strong female. I really liked this story, but it definitely requires a sequel.
