I want to start by mentioning I don't know why it took me so long to finish this book.
I never stopped enjoying it and it was interesting but I couldn't focus too much on it.. maybe it was thinking it would be like any other story, repetitive.
But it wasn't.
It had its own colors and its own problem and the drama wasn't so heavy as I was fearing.
I realized that when I arrived to chapter 12, and I kinda of devourerd the book after it.
However, getting to chapter 11 wasn't tedious, it was just slow because I didn't read as much

Mentioning the characters, I like there weren't many (I have trouble remembering names) and I love how friendship was portrayed in the book.

I would like to point out it that I never understood what where the friends working on ajsjs but maybe it was just me being dumb

Overall, the book was entertaining, easy to read and follow along for someone who's not a native English speaker

Spoilers:

The novel part, omg the novel part, I don't think I ever read something as romantic (I don't read too much okay) I was smiling so hard to myself!! I loved it
This is why I'm single

Another scene I like is where where Hunter gets the call, bc I really really loved how it was shown she was shut down, like I could totally feel that her feelings and issues with Sam were no longer as important as her mom well being.
I even wondered once how will the author recover from this without forcing it... And she did! Splendidly to my opinion

"My love" as a contact name will be my new goal, just saying

Oh man, I'll miss this book

This second go-round with this book was enjoyed in the audio format. The banter, which seemed excessive while reading, seemed less so while listening. I really liked the group dynamic the friends had as well as how each pairing of friends, when two spent time together separate from the group, was unique and valued. The romance in the story was charming and believable.

Worth another listen sometime down the road.

Good chemistry and interesting characters in this continuation of the Soho series.
I do find the constant banter in the dialogue between the four friends a bit trying.

This was almost as lovely as the first book. Overall I had a really good time and enjoyed both Samantha and Hunter as individual characters and in their dynamic. There is a lot to like with the friends to lovers and and they were roommates videos going on here. I think (as in the first one) I would have enjoyed a liiiiitle more of the girls friendships to take a little more center stage? But I liked what we got, esp with the conflict of Samantha and Brooklyn figuring out their new post roommate new relationship dynamics. I AM still confused what voice the narrator is giving Brooklyn; sometimes she sounds like she had a slight Boston accent and sometimes she doesn’t. I def enjoyed and connected with the first one more (rivals to lovers is a bit more my vibe than friends to lovers) but I really enjoyed this one too and I’m reallly looking forward to Mallory’s story.

Piketty's [b:Capital in the Twenty-First Century|18736925|Capital in the Twenty-First Century|Thomas Piketty|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1390111547s/18736925.jpg|26224121] is infinitely more captivating than this.

The beginning seemed promising enough: the prose is less flashy and, consequently, less awkward here than in [b:Kiss the Girl|18406404|Kiss the Girl (Soho Loft, #1)|Melissa Brayden|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1384260344s/18406404.jpg|26041514], and I don't hate the friends-to-lovers trope at all when it's done well. Hunter was also, in my opinion, the most interesting of the Savvy girls in book #1 (although her "exotic" looks, i.e. non-whiteness is emphasized in pretty painful ways throughout).

Unfortunately, she nor anybody else here feels like an actual character, with actual, developed psychological realities beyond their surface attributes and behavioral quirks - and a generous portion of those were introduced back when all these people had was supporting roles in Brooklyn's story!

Why this is a problem is that without lifelike characters it's nigh impossible to create a believable - and therefore enjoyable - romance. Here Hunter and Sam's attraction to each other is almost completely told instead of shown, their histories feel flat, and since by the halfway point the author hasn't mustered the courage to go into her characters' heads any more than in the beginning in order to change that, I'm just bowing out of the ordeal.

Apparently it's Wasted Potential Day in Romancelandia. Again. And this arguably is one of the better authors in the (sub)genre...

DNF at about 50%.

Note: I did eventually finish this. It did not get better.

Of late, I've been reading a lot of wlw (women-loving-women) romance novels. Approximately 1-book-per-day kind of "a lot" for a month straight. Or not so straight. Must be a quarter-life crisis thing since I pretty much never read romance in the past. I have yet to read one fall-in-love-with-best-friend story. Until now.

"I’m thinking you’re low maintenance, which I kind of don’t get because you have so many clothes it’s ridiculous."
"Correction. I wear a lot of different outfits. But I donate the old ones every six months or so. I like to keep things fresh and travel light."
"Kind of how you manage your women."

The second book of the Soho Loft series did not disappoint! I really liked it. Brayden captured the vibrant dynamics between the four partners of Soho Savvy — Mallory Spencer, Samantha Ennis, Hunter Blair, and Brooklyn Campbell. While the last book focused on Brooklyn's relationship with their rival Jessica Lennox, this book is about Sam and Hunter. I enjoyed how their new layer of relationship was built on the pre-existing mutual trust of 10 years. Both being cautious and uncertain, Sam and Hunter faced their insecurities – Sam's lack of belief in herself and Hunter's aversion to committed relationship – as well as dealt with communication issues that are admittedly frustrating to read about.

I love how Mallory and Brooklyn put their friends' happiness before their company. The strong bond of friendship the four of them have for each other is so heartwarming. And though
SpoilerSam and Hunter were in the middle of a fight when Hunter's mom fell sick, Sam decided to be present for Hunter as a great friend and did not push her to discuss their relationship during this highly stressed time. She pretty much held the Blairs together in her short visit
. It is mutual respect and support. I really love how Hunter
Spoilerleft the notebook on Sam's bed, followed by her waiting under their lamppost
. She tried so hard. Who knew Hunter is such a hopeless romantic?

However, I do have to point out that the repeated use of "exotic" in descriptions does not sit well with me.

Sam and Hunter took "I fell in love with my best friend" to a whole new level of "I fell in love with my best friend of ten years!" It is an adorable read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in reading some light wlw fiction. [26 Feb 2020]
