This was the perfect audio book for me to listen to now. It was funny and clever and took my mind off all the things I am stressed about.

I absolutely adored this memoir from Tom Allen. First up, it's incredibly funny as you would expect from one of Britain's finest comedians (I love his bits of GBBO Extra Slice!). Tom's trademark caustic wit is there but it's the self-deprecating remarks that are so brilliant.
The humour is pitched perfectly against the story of his childhood and early adult life; growing up in deepest Suburbia (aka Bromley) and feeling like an outsider from a young age. Knowing something was different about him but not quite being able to put his finger on it... (somehow the bowler hat, luncheon parties and membership of the Noel Coward Society didn't shine any light on it!)
Tim articulates his struggles with accepting his sexuality so beautifully and there were so many moments that I just wanted to give him a big hug! Tom also pays tribute to all the people who have been kind to him along the way, accepting him for who he is and helping him on his way to being happy with himself.
Ultimately, Tom's message to be yourself and not let other people make you feel bad about it is so uplifting and I'm sure will bring inner strength to a lot of young people travelling a similar journey.
