This book is a retelling of the Medusa myth, blending vivid storytelling with emotional depth. Lynn reimagines Medusa not as a monster, but as a deeply human character shaped by betrayal, resilience, and tragedy, giving a fresh perspective to the familiar tale. The prose is poetic yet accessible, drawing readers into a richly detailed world of ancient Greece. The narrative seamlessly intertwines themes of power, injustice, and the complexities of the human condition, making it both thought-provoking and emotionally engaging. While the pacing occasionally lags in parts, the overall impact of the story is compelling and unforgettable. With its unique perspective and evocative writing, Athena's Child earns a well-deserved 4.5 stars.

interesting back story to Medusa
I enjoyed this one, it was an interesting take in medusas story. It really showed how there are two sides to every story. A great read, a different world to escape to.

‘Gods do not pay the price for their wrongdoings, Perseus. Mortals do. The gods, like the rich of the world, push their agendas onto those whose voices are not loud enough to speak for themselves. The women. The weak. The unwanted. And no one shouts for those who need it the most. Why would they? To shout for another is to risk losing something yourself. And man cannot see beyond the depth of his own reflection.’
Athena’s Child was a quick and entertaining retelling of the story of Medusa. Although there are some myths that share she was born as a Gorgon, this is a version that captures betrayal and sorrow. Also included is a brief motion of Perseus and his encounter with Medusa.
Overall, I enjoyed this retelling and I got through it pretty quickly. The writing did seem to be basic and rudimentary in some areas, but this is a historical fiction novel. Just to get people interested enough to do their own research into Greek Mythology.
4/5 stars

This was pretty good. It was a fast read and not a very long book. I don’t think it reached its full potential, and frankly could have added more story. The writing was good but very obviously British. Not too bad
