This is the fifth iteration of the Medusa/Perseus myth crossover that I’ve read in the last few years. I would say “Athena’s Child” is the least complex of the tellings but that’s not to the diminishment of the reading experience. I cared deeply for Medusa and I liked how Ms. Lynn softened Perseus (I’ll take a more bland hero over a posturing dick any day). If it sounds like I’m not selling this story well, do forgive me. Overall, I liked the book and it’s the version I would probably be most likely to recommend for a teen reader who wants to dip their toe into the vast sea of mythological retellings.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. “Athena’s Child” comes out Sept. 26th!

Lacked character development and plot. Creativity was lacking as I feel that I’ve already read this story almost verbatim. Claire Heywood did it better imo.
This one is just, in one word: fine. It’s a quick & easy book, and i liked getting my first look into Medusa as the other Greek mythology retellings i’ve read haven’t featured her at length.
My only “critique” is that the time jumps aren’t clear at certain points and the characters lacked the depth that i usually enjoy in this genre.

I need more Medusa retellings and I didn't know how mighty the need was until I read this book. I loved it. I just wish there was more of it. I've already got the next two books in the Grecian Women lined up and I can't wait to read more by Hannah Lynn. And more Medusa content in general. Gimme allllll the snakes.

I just finished Athena's Child by Hannah Lynn and here is my review.
Medusa is cursed with beauty she didn’t ask for and seeks sanctuary with the Goddess Athena. Everything seems to be going well until Poseidon takes a shine to her and takes liberties with her in the temple.
Perseus embarks on an impossible quest but he is determined to succeed.
Both are pawns for selfish Gods and Athena’s wrath has Medusa fleeing but can she hide without becoming the monster they say she is?
I love Greek mythology so when this book hit my TBR I was so excited! I really enjoyed Hannah Lynn’s straightforward story telling. It was interesting and well written. I am not going to lie but I preferred Medusa’s story over Perseus but it was still a very interesting story.
The whole thing was tragic and heartbreaking. The whole book mirrors our reality. Men of power get away with things regular people do not and that comes across in waves from this book.
I would have liked more to be honest but I did enjoy what I got.

It’s all in the punchline
Hannah Lynn’s retelling of the story of Medusa and Perseus is well written and engaging. However, it’s in the final pages that the telling holds true meaning and depth. Read this with the women I your life that you’re fighting for. Don’t let their stories go untold.

“Il segreto di Medusa” mah.
Il fatto che determinati uomini siano dei bastardi egoisti, timorosi delle proprie fragilità che si ritrovano poi a sfogare sugli altri sotto forma di violenze di ogni tipo, non è proprio un segreto.
