I enjoyed this retelling of the myth of Medusa! The writing is compelling without being overly complicated, and the pacing is nice. I enjoyed the feminist twist to the story, and how the author tackled toxic masculinity and how it is perceived in society. I felt a lot of anger and sadness at Medusa's fate, but what the author added when Perseus reached the island was refreshing. I didn't expect to get Perseus' perspective, it was a nice add-on, though I wish a few chapters didn't randomly switch perspectives in the middle. Athena's Child adds a bit of context to the myth, but as far as retellings go, this stays pretty close to the myth it was inspired by even if the messages and themes were nice to see. Overall I liked it, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to start reading retellings.
