I finished this book in 3 hours. I really hated the first part of this book because it was the typical “I love you but I’m trying to protect you so I’m gunna be an asshole and do toxic shit so you hate me” vibe.
But then it switched back and Gemma and Isaiah’s romance was back and it was a wild ride the rest of the way through. I loved the story line and how all the characters mentioned in the series came together. It was super predictable but it was honestly a fun time.

This is one hundered percent one of my new favourite series of all time. Perfection. Gemma and Isaiah are soulmates. I loved the journey that they went on through this duet. I’m speechless. Isaiah is so soft and protective over Gemma in the best way. Gemma Is the strongest sweetest character ever I just want to hug her. These are characters I will never ever forget! I don’t want to move on I loved this so so much.

I can’t wait for Cade and Journey’s story!!

The first word that comes to mind is captivating. This second book in the St. Mary's series had me in all sorts of twisted emotions. This book was one that kept me wanting more! I could not stop reading what would happen next. It is perfect parts of intense, strong, dark, and devious. Gemma, Isaiah, the rebels and more are back continuing to navigate the mysterious halls of St. Mary's but with some EPIC twists. S.J. Sylvis is a writing queen. She draws you in and has you til the very end. You NEED to read this!

This duet was so good. I loved the suspense and the undeniable love between Gemma and Isaiah.
4.5/5 I felt like the ending was a little rushed but other than that it was perfect.

I can’t wait to read Journey and Cade’s story next

This series was a first read for me from this author and I have to say, I'll be looking for more.

This story had many triggers, but it all came out in the end to be a marvelous little save the day in love story. The way Sylvis intertwined the characters and dropped all the bombs in the end really had me thinking "that was some author outline she must've had". I was thoroughly impressed.
This is the second story in the series. While it can be read as a stand alone, I think it would be easier to follow if the first was read as it immediately picks off where "Good Girls Never Rise" ends.
The characters are intense, troubled, high school boarding school kids who are all trying to find their way to survive. Little did they know their lives would intertwine so significantly with each other and the national gun lords.
This kind of storyline is not something I would typically read, but will be picking up more of the authors work and will recommend this immediately.

“She didn’t even know I’d given her my heart. I didn’t even know. I didn’t even know I had much of one to begin with, and here I was, bleeding out with her standing just a few feet away.”

“Every time I fucking touched you, it was like touching an angel, Gemma. Perfect and captivating. I felt unworthy every single time.”

“I wanted to breathe for her. I wanted to give her every ounce of oxygen in my lungs.”

“Isaiah was comfort and warmth and strength all wrapped up into one person, and with just one single touch, I felt at home. I felt whole.”

“Gemma and I together could put stars in the sky. That was how it felt when we touched. It was…intense and powerful. All-consuming. Like the fucking universe swallowing everything in its path. My ribs felt like they were ready to crack open at any given second with her in my arms.”

“If you cry, I’ll wipe your tears. If you have nightmares, I’ll wake you up. If you break down right here in front of me, I will piece you back together. I’m not leaving your side, and you aren’t leaving mine, either.”
