Okay maybe more of a 3.5-star book. Thoroughly enjoyed and it's really, really intriguing but I read this while I wasn't in a proper mood and situation so it made me not able to fully enjoy it? Pretty sure it's worth 4 stars though (if I had been able to actually absorb myself in it).
Also just realized it says this is People Like Us #1 which means there will be a second book?? Consider me excited

This started sooooooo strong I was so excited to see how it all played out in the end but it kinda lost me towards the end. The pacing was weird and the big reveal wasn’t as dramatic as I feel it could have been. I enjoyed it, just wasn’t a love
Well that was meh

Overall, there really isn't anything wrong with this story. The writing is fine . The story is fine. The characters are fine.

I can't say I was blown away by anything. I feel like its been done before, and IMHO its been done better.
Maybe I've been reading too many thrillers / mysteries / watching too much Law and Order: SVU lately....
BUT I found People Like Us to be super predicable and really not that exciting. It had some pretty heavy Gossip Girl / Pretty Little Liars vibes.

I really loved this book. I found it hard to get into, reading the first 30% or so over 10ish days. But after that, the plot picks up and is super hard to put down. I did not expect the ending. I was able to guess part of it near the end, but all the details were shocking. There are twists (quite literally) up until the last page. I am in a complete book hangover and will be thinking about this for the next week.

i may not be into reading thrillers but i'm definitely into reading books where almost every main character is a queer girl
Amazing read, and a very top tier mystery. I wasn’t able to predict who did it(which is always a bonus) and boy was it an interesting ending.

Entertaining but I've just read too many thrillers that were better than this one, unfortunately.
People Like Us is about a girl named Kay who along with her friends, find a girl dead at their boarding school. Kay and her friends all have their secrets and it seems most likely that the girl was murdered. Afterwords, Kay gets a mysterious email telling her to go to a site and to do what it says or it'll leak a secret she has kept hidden from everyone. The site leads her on a scavenger hunt all in the name of getting revenge for the murdered girl, and the hunt leads right to her friends. Everyone is suspicious and suddenly Kay is the prime suspect but she isn't going down easy.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the fact that it was pretty much lesbian (bisexual in Kay's case) city. I was with it! The relationship between Kay and Brie was honestly so stupid though. I didn't get why Kay liked her and I didn't get why I was supposed to care. She disappeared for what felt like half the book only to come back out of NOWHERE and it was so bizarre to me. Kay had so many friends she had to "take down" and I still can't tell them apart. It seemed like they were there for one purpose and when they served that purpose they were thrown away. Also she kept calling them her best friends? It never seemed like they even liked each other a little bit. Characters really kept flip-flopping on how they acted and that was weird to me too. Or again, they just disappeared for no reason or lacked the importance it seemed like they had.
Going into this book I was so excited for the "scavenger hunt" and the things she was supposed to do to protect her secrets but... it was lame. It was just so easy, no challenge, and I don't get the point or even the danger. Super lame and I'll leave it at that.
Halfway through the book I wrote a note on my number one guess on who did it and I was right, even down to the motive. While I like to think I'm Sherlock Holmes and got it because I'm so good, I don't think so. It was obvious and I was disappointed. Even down to the ending I was disappointed.
I could keep going but I'm just done with this book honestly. I liked the boarding school setting and I liked how fast it was to read but it just wasn't for me. Maybe if you are new to the thriller genre you'll enjoy it.

Spoiler
Oh I'm so glad this dumb girl went to the crazy killer, got her to say every single detail about how she did it and why while having a hidden microphone and recorder and then it was easy to just... run away. Good for her? Glad the part where Brie miked up was just waved away too because it was just so stupid.I could keep going but I'm just done with this book honestly.
