Not very weird by PKD's standards, although he does eschew the standard 'nazis won the war' plot to go off on a completely different tangent and make it very much his own. This was the first PKD novel I ever read and as far as I recall it was the only one (notwithstanding some short fiction e..g. "The Days of Perky Pat") until reading Ubik recently.

Muže z vysokého zámku pojal Philip K. Dick spíše filozoficky a není to tedy jednoduchá literatura. Dle mého, je ale napsána tak, že nevykazuje a ani nemůže vykazovat známky zastarávání, což značí vysokou spisovatelskou úroveň a dá se s klidem doporučit i dnes.

Enjoyable! Really interesting seeing PKD’s version of alternate events in this way, it’s just a shame that the book is as short as it is because there is so much more to explore. It’s no wonder the show is four seasons, I very much want to watch it now. That said, the book doesn’t seem to me as though it would translate super well into a series so I’ll be interested to see if it’s made a lot of changes.
Some of the subplots in this I enjoyed more than others, but PKD’s writing style is so interesting. There is a particular passage towards the end where a character essentially undergoes some kind of fugue state and honestly it was putting me in something of a trance. That right there is undoubtedly the mark of a skilled writer. It’s a great book and I enjoyed it but it needed something else, something more. I’m not really sure what but it felt like it did so much teasing and flirting with amazing concepts and interesting storylines but ultimately never went further than that. An odd book in that way.

Really not a fan. I had expected more plot and a lot less philosophy.

I found it to be thoughtfully written with great introspection and “historicity”. The different stories of each character coming together to tell one narrative was executed well and quite enjoyable. Though the ending left a bit more to be desired for me. Nevertheless the great background lore of this novel has made me wanna play hoi4.
