I was told this was science fiction but actually I see this as speculative fiction. The concept intrigued me but the execution of it didn’t work at all for me. I love the actual process of reading but this was a punish to get through as neither the characters or the narrative were interesting. When I think of good speculative fiction I think of Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel which is immaculately executed and a beautiful piece of writing.

An important piece of classic work but overall not as I expected it to be. Wish the author drove deeper into the world itself and less back and forth between certain characters. Interesting perspective in the end and shocking at the mirrors seen through the story itself.

Amazing world-building from PKD with some of the strongest prose I've seen in his work. The world is fleshed out as seen through the eyes of the characters and his grasp of history will appeal to students of history and WW2 buffs.

The ending is vague to the point of frustration, and I'm sure many readers will say it's half-finished. There is very little closure or explanation given to the things set in motion by the plot, which I expect is what drags the reader score down somewhat. It's definitely one of the most cryptic endings.

Recomendado totalmente

My heart wasn't in it. In fact I couldn't finish it. I got well past the half way point but it never grabbed me. Interesting world building but I couldn't get past a threshold of disbelief that required me to believe that the Nazis took over the entire USA. Britain, sure, could have happened, the US Is far too big and far too far to be taken over by the 1950's. It's an interesting thought experiment, but I couldn't take it seriously. Sadly I also found the characters to be boring and the story pace to be terribly slow. Needed serious editing. There might be something good in there but i just couldn't slog through it anymore. Maybe I'll try again.
