3.75 AVERAGE

Like other reviewers I was really looking forward to the next Phyrne Fisher instalment. However I found the book lacked Phryne's magic compared to the previous books. There were too many characters to keep track of and as another reveiwer mentioned, their characters were not fleshed out. It took me a while to finish the book, and I can only put it down to the slightly convoluted story line.

Phryne and Dot take a vacation to a resort town and find out folks have been disappearing and others dropping dead. Meanwhile, the clan back home investigate the murder of a schoolgirl. Too many different things in the town Phryne has to figure out in a short time make it seem to rushed. The home one just seems to exist to keep the other people in the book. Still, average.

So many mysteries!!!
Love that Jane, Ruth, and Tinker got their own with Hugh

I was so excited by the return of Phryne Fisher and this book was well worth the wait.

Phryne and Dot are off to visit a spa in the countryside. A man is running a treatment facility for former soldiers living with shell shock and he has requested financial support from Phryne. While impressed with what she sees at the spa, she discovers that mysteries abound in the two nearest towns. Several women, one with a child, have vanished. Now young men are being murdered.

Back in the city Jane, Ruth, and Tinker find themselves investigating the death of a student from the girls' school. It seems they have learned quite a lot from Phryne.

As always with Kerry Greenwood this book is incredibly well written and very hard to put down. Phryne is a wonderfully interesting character and it's a joy to spend time with her.

Surprise!!! A new Phryne Fisher! Not as good as some of the early books but better than the last two this is a solid 3.5 stars.

I was honestly disappointed in this one. I had been looking forward to it, but this failed to live up to my expectations.
The main mystery and it’s resolution were weak, the secondary plot involving Hugh and the girls was unnecessary, and Phryne herself came across as pretentious (far too much talking in Capital Letters!) and at time condescending
