I'm not a really experienced poem reader, but even I can tell that masterpieces are masterpieces.
Dickinson's poems are beautifully written and the themes that she chose to write (time, love, hate, nature, etc.) were all portrayed perfectly. She's like an artist using words as the paintbrush to create some really outstanding scenes. I also love the fact that everything she writes about are always from her life experiences so that there's a lot of substance in addition to the elegant appearance of her poems. Some poems are actually very philosophical (she talks of eternity quite frequently) which makes them thought provoking too.
In terms of form, I've noticed that she writes a lot of 4-line-stanza poems and that often the second and fourth line would rhyme. She's not particularly ambitious with her form but I still very much appreciate the ingenuity of the way she puts lines together.
Some excerpts that I love:
"I had no time to hate, because
The grave would hinder me,
And life was not so ample I
Could finish enmity."
"Nor was I hungry; so I found
That hunger was a way
Of persons outside windows,
The entering takes away."

I’m not sure it’s fair to review this when I read it with a headache-turning-migraine so I’ll probably keep it and reread it when that’s not the case, but I was not overly impressed with most of the poems, which is kind of disappointing. I like a handful of Dickinson poems I’d read in the past and was hoping to find more to like in here. I did find some, but not many. This book has a really pretty presentation though. I love the box to keep it nice, and the cover is a really nice satiny purple with a silver title and flowers. It was also nice that there was a little intro about Dickinson.

Okay. I have skipped around while reading this, and I'm certain that I have not read every single one of the 25, 000 plus poems that are in this, but what I read I loved.
I've been dipping in and out of this all year, and I'm still not finished, strictly speaking.
I suspect I never will be. Nor do I ever want to be, because poetry unlike other literary forms is like songs - begging to be re-read, re-experienced, enjoyed over and over again.

Ya es una tradición personal comenzar el año leyendo un poemario de Emily Dickinson. En este caso elegí una edición bilingüe y la verdad que me encantó la experiencia.
Me parece una poeta excelente, inteligente y calculadora con matices y conceptos interesantes.
Leer el poema original, luego en traducción y la opción de comparar ambos me dejó mucho más claro porqué me gustan e impactan tanto sus poemas.
Si bien su estilo parece simple, accesible y conciso, creo que las posibilidades de interpretación y análisis son infinitas, por lo tanto: sumamente recomendada.
