This one was hard to rate because I really loved a lot of it…And then it went off the rails and had
this horrible weird ending that didn’t seem to fit with the whole beginning part of examining female interpersonal relationships and what can drive normal people to commit gruesome crimes. Like sexual Siam was a smaller theme earlier so I guess it’s not shocking that’s where it went, we saw it in multiple characters early on, I wasn’t expecting it to be the denouement.||

So dark and disturbing, but well written. I could not put it down and I will not be forgetting this book in a long time.

I was interested enough to finish the book and see how it would end but ultimately this book just wasn’t for me and i didn’t know exactly what i was getting myself into.

This book had some really gruesome scenes, that gave me the chills to read. I will applaud the writing, the writing in this book is AMAZING. I don’t read many thrillers because I don’t usually get the feeling of being “thrilled” by them but this had me on the edge of my seat. I would rate it higher but I just felt like the ending fell flat and I still don’t understand some of the choices made by the Matsuko and as a result the ending fell flat for me.

Also, please look into content warnings before reading this, it’s not just about a wife killing her husband. It’s explores the human psyche and the idea that there is no “good guy”, it’s also a commentary of the darkness within, and how society treats women that try to conform and those that try to diverge from the norm.
