really loved the way this book slowly builds to this extreme boiling point in the ending. it takes its time to get there but it truly is like the analogy of the frog and boiling water. the tension rises so slowly that you don’t even notice a change until you think back to where it started.

for various reasons i didn’t appreciate the very very ending. like the last 10 pages basically. Masakos development takes a turn for the worst and I didn’t like a lot of the implications behind it

I don't know how to feel about this book. ... I found it gripping, depressing, horrifying even, and I couldn't put it down. The ending was very meh but even then....it's going to haunt me. Would I recommend it? To psychology students, maybe. It's extremely dark. The characters aren't even likable and yet you might find yourself drawn in by them anyway. It's not very fast, but the way it was written kept me intrigued. Definitely not for everyone, and be warned before you go in - bring a flashlight and plenty of batteries, it's pitch black in there.

Non so, opinioni?

It took a little while for me to get used to the writing as you can tell by the phrasing that it is translated. However, I did enjoy the story to a point as I found the plot quite hard to predict and I enjoyed the dynamic between the female characters.

Where the story lost me was the violence and sexual repression and this being enjoyed and embraced by the women themselves. I found it staggering that a woman has written this.

The darkness of the novel and the violence did not bother me. But the way this was supposedly welcomed by the women just struck me as odd, unlikely and made me dismissive of the novel as a whole.

This book was not as graphic and wild as I thought it would be, but was still gripping and kept me involved in the story until the end.

Slight spoiler: Slow tension built throughout the story. I didn't feel as if the tension was really strong enough to pull me through the book. The answers I wanted I didn't receive. Too many holes in the plot. With all of the description given to each character, I don't feel as if the characters were fully developed. The ending: Not all of the character story lines were wrapped up. Raping a woman only to reveal she "loved" him? The ending didn't make sense and was just for shock value. What exactly did she "love" about him. He was just like her? Sad. This had potential.
