Non so, opinioni?

I remember this book having great reviews 10 years ago and I feel the time has switch from true crime and detailing grusome scenes to understanding that voyerarism is different that empathy and understanding horrible things happen. This book left me feel uncomfortable and voyeuristic in several scenes.
I did find the description on Japanese culture extrememly interesting as well as discussing the difficult social and economic challenges women face in Japan but this message was over shaddow by the dark and twisted scenes.

This one was hard to rate because I really loved a lot of it…And then it went off the rails and had
this horrible weird ending that didn’t seem to fit with the whole beginning part of examining female interpersonal relationships and what can drive normal people to commit gruesome crimes. Like sexual Siam was a smaller theme earlier so I guess it’s not shocking that’s where it went, we saw it in multiple characters early on, I wasn’t expecting it to be the denouement.||

Wow ok. so rating is for quality of writing and story crafting, not my enjoyment of the read. I took a very long time (for me) to trudge through this very bad time. The broad strokes are....kinda almost what was advertised to me, IE: some ladies help their friend hide a body and end up Mister Magooing their way into being the go-to-cleaners for the mob. But the Tone. My dude. This is a dark, angry, brooding novel. This novel reflects heavily on the misery and futility of living in patriarchal capitalist society as a woman, or a foreigner, or middle aged person, or a single mother.
This is one of very few novels I've read that has almost no character development whatsoever. The characters don't change, you just get a far better idea later on of what causes them to make the decisions that they do.
Not for the faint of heart. Major trigger warnings.
