Part 4 was the best but maybe not worth it for parts 1-3

DID NOT FINISH: 13%

The synopsis sounded right up my alley, but I DNF’d at the 13% mark. I’m not one that needs characters to be likeable, but our unnamed protagonist is insufferable. He talks about wanting an amazing life and then does nothing to change the path he’s set himself on— and whines all along the way.

Liked how everything came together but I wasn't too invested generally.

This is probably more like 2.5 stars for me. I read another review that mentioned the reader didn't like the main character and for the most part, I agree with that sentiment. It seems like he is always blaming others for his own problems and won't take responsibility for his own actions. Like he is somehow elevated above those he surrounds himself with.

As for the sections of the book, the first two were a bit difficult for me to get into. By the third, I was seeing more of the direction that was being taken with the narrative. The real savior of this book (at least for me) was the final section. But maybe that's because it forced the main character to look inward more than any of the other sections. And maybe that's the point the book is trying to make?

All told, I would still give the second book a go.

I liked this book but didn't love it. I actually feel petty neutral about it. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace to read it.
